Cricket Ireland has announced that Stephen Moreton will take temporary charge of the Ireland senior Women's side for its tournament in South Africa this autumn.
Cricket Ireland Cricket Operations Director, Mark Garaway, explained the move saying: "Stephen will shadow Paul Delany at the Womens European Championships in Scotland and then become interim coach for the preparation and competition phase of the South Africa tournament in October.
"Stephen is a Level II Coach who will be undertaking the Level III in January 2010. Stephen played for Warwickshire and Oxford University and has an solid grasp of the requirements of international cricket, this is essential in the role of coach of the Ireland Women's team. The aim is to become the sixth-ranked nation in ODI Cricket by 2015."
Speaking about his appointment, Moreton said: "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the women's squad from the conclusion of the Euros to the South Africa trip - I have already established a good relationship with a number of the squad, and am looking forward to working with them as a group leading up to and including the big tournament in South Africa in October.
"There has been plenty of good work done with the squad in the last year or so, which has been well led by Paul Delany and Nigel Pyne. It has also been supported brilliantly by Adi Birrell, Mark Garaway and a number of the senior men's squad who have helped out - and I am looking to add to that.
"It is an exciting period for women's cricket in Ireland as we have a number of very talented youngsters who have broken into, or are just breaking into the squad, and are supported by some excellent players with good experience, such as the Joyce sisters, the Whelan sisters, Clare Shillington and Ciara Metcalfe.
"I hope the players are looking forward to a period of hard work between the Euros and South Africa - I'm a big advocate that good preparation will result in good performances, so hopefully we won't be leaving any stones unturned."
Cricket Ireland will interview and recruit a permanent Head Coach of the women's squad following the tournament.
