Hosts Greece took the inaugural European Division 5 Championship at the picturesque Marina Ground at Gouvia on Saturday, completing a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Czech Republic to retain its unbeaten record in the tournament.
Three-wicket spells by Dimitris Triantafillidis, Mehmood Ahmed and Anastasios Manousis helped limit the Czech Republic to 133 in 40.2 overs with the trio claiming figures of 3-21 each. In response, Greece was able to achieve the winning total in less than 24 overs and the loss of three wickets to maintain its unbeaten streak and claim the tournament title.
Meanwhile, at Ropa Valley, Sweden guaranteed second place as it recorded a facile 72-run victory over Estonia, in defence of 146. Excellent bowling performances from Azam Khalil (4-26) and Imran Zaigham (3-13) helped limit the opposition to just 72 in less than 21 overs.
On the sister ground at Ropa Valley, Turkey thumped Bulgaria by nine-wickets in a low-scoring encounter with five-wicket hauls from Turkey's Sajjad Haider and Mohammad Razak.
