The Swedish Cricket Federation (SCF) would like to begin by thanking ICC Europe for providing us funds from the ASP for this much needed international tour of Norway.
The Swedish Development Cricket Team's tour to Norway was a long awaited international trip for Swedish Cricket Team. The tour which comprised of two twenty20 matches served all the purposes Sweden had in mind while planning this tour. Cricket in Sweden is back on the right track and it was a part of our development plan to start playing against national teams of other neighbouring countries.
Two twenty-20 matches were played between Norway's national cricket team and the Swedish Development cricket team. Norway won both matches after two close games.
In the first match Sweden won the toss and batted first and scored 188/6 with an average of 9.4 runs an over in their allocated 20 overs. Poor bowling and fielding helped the Norwegian side achieve their target in the 19th over with the loss of 7 wickets. The Norwegian batsmen performed well and took the match away from Sweden's reach and the winning boundary came at the start of the 19th over.
Fortunes did not improve the day after for the Swedish side. Norway won the toss and batted first, and whilst they performed well with the bat the effect of eight dropped catches and a low-energy fielding performance played more than a minor part in allowing Norway to set the monster target of 218 runs. In response Sweden again showed theirs guts and made 189 in their allocated overs. Naveed Bashir with a brilliant all round performance and Lochana Premarathna with his outstanding batting performance were the picks of the trip for Sweden. Faisal Azeem and Captain Yasir Ikram being the most senior players in the team, showed their class by playing shots all around the wicket.
Both matches were very tight affairs and all the players from the Swedish side gained a huge amount of experience from playing against a strong Norwegian side. The SCF would also like to convey our greatest gratitude to Norwegian Cricket Board for their hospitality and great arrangements for the two matches.
