ICC to hold first ever meeting in Spain
The International Cricket Council is set to hold its first ever meeting on Spanish soil this weekend. Cricket España and ICC Europe, one of the ICC's five global development regions, will play host to the ICC Development Committee in the La Manga Club resort in Murcia on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November.
The ICC Development Committee, chaired by Haroon Lorgat, ICC CEO, meets twice a year to review and monitor all policy matters relating to the structure and delivery of the ICC Global Development Program. It is Europe’s turn to host the event, and as cricket in Spain continues to strengthen and grow ICC Europe decided to invite the committee to Spain to showcase the country’s excellent potential as a cricketing nation.
Spain is currently an ICC Affiliate Member, but has ambitions to become an Associate Member in the near future. Cricket España will have the opportunity to give a presentation to the committee describing strong recent growth in terms of players, clubs and grounds and outlining the ambitious plans it has for further development.
Phil Beal, Cricket Espana Chairman, expressed his delight at hosting such an important gathering: "It is truly an honour to be able to welcome the committee to Spain, and we are delighted to be given the chance to showcase the sport here, our recent achievements, our plans for the future and the excellent facilities we have in La Manga. We are looking forward to the meeting and we hope it will be the first of many ICC events in Spain."
