Fresh from playing a pivotal role in The Hills CC being crowned 2008 Leinster Senior League champions, Albert Van De Merwe has commenced a coaching role with the Leinster Cricket Union. His dual role will see him carry out school coaching visits in West Dublin and also being an active member of the Union's coaching team for its Friday evening underage squad coaching sessions.

Van de Merwe, who arrived in Dublin last January following several seasons at Derriaghy in Belfast, has been busy in his role of Cricket Development Officer with The Hills Cricket Club. Much of this work involved coaching in both Primary and Secondary schools in the Skerries area along with acting as head coach for the junior section at the club.

This week he started cricket at Tyrellstown Educate Together NS, St Mochta's NS-Blanchardstown and St Partick's NS-Diswellstown. These West Dublin schools are situated in the Fingal, whose development programme is headed by Reinhardt Strydom. Coaching visits will also commence within the schools in Adamstown in a venture funded by both South Dublin County Council and the South Dublin County Sports Partnership.

Van De Merwe has also joined up with the Union's provincial coaching team who have commenced sessions with both the U'11's and U'13's squads on Friday afternoons/evenings and who have a variety of coaching-related activities lined up for the upcoming school holiday period.
