Cricket Development Officer for the Isle of Man
At the beginning of this season Isle of Man cricket has took another major step forward with the employment of a full time Cricket Development Officer, Gareth Dawson.
After a rigorous selection process which attracted applications from as far a-field as India and Australia it was Yorkshireman Gareth who impressed the Isle of Man Cricket Association as the right person for the task.
David Slack, the Development Director for the Isle of Man Cricket Association explained "This is a key appointment for the delivery of our long term development plan for Cricket, and we are confident that Gareth can take our sport to the next level, both at grass roots level and our international aspirations".
Gareth has a wealth of experience to bring to Island cricket, being a holder of England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Level 1, 2 and 3 coaching awards. He is also qualified in Tutor Training for Cricket which enables him to deliver and oversee Level 1 and Level 2 coaching awards on the Island.
This means that not only players, but coaches can benefit from his expertise by qualifying on-Island.
"Having worked extensively with the Yorkshire Under 15 and various other cricketing bodies, Gareth also provides just the expertise we need to develop our youth development" continued David.
The appointment of Gareth has been made possible by the generous support of the Hilton Hotel Group.
"The Hilton Hotel Group have taken a direct interest in our quest to find our CDO" explained IOM Cricket Association Sponsorship Officer, Alistair Audsley. "This has meant that their support has been much more than financial, as they have helped us with practical advice and solutions in recruiting and accommodating Gareth."
Assistance has also been received from the Isle of Man Sports Council as a consequence of cricket achieving Community Key Sports status on the island.
Gareth's appointment is for an initial tree year period and as he familiarises himself with the cricket situation on the island and gets to know more about the Clubs, their facilities and available resources his face will become increasingly familiar at all cricket related venues around the Island.
The IOMCA wish him well in the challenges that lie ahead and are confident that thanks to the fantastic support received from both sponsors and Sports Council exciting times lie ahead for the sport here on the Isle of Man.
