The final international match of the ICC European Tournament season was played at the Hrvatski Sokol ground in Budenec, Zagreb on Sunday 11 October between Israel, winners of this summer's Division 3 Championship in Spain and Croatia, the bottom placed team of the Division 2 Championships held in Guernsey in 2008.
Israel, led by skipper Herschel Gutman won the toss and elected to bowl in a rain-delayed match which was subsequently reduced to 36 overs. After losing Zdenko Leko to an early wicket after just 5 runs, Croatia suffered an agonisingly slow run-rate against Israel's relentless bowling attack before losing Pero Kastelan (33) to the first of Steven Shein's four wickets of the day. A mid-order collapse then saw 5 wickets tumble for just 7 runs leaving Croatian skipper Craig Sinovich, Jasen Butkovic and Ante Nazor (not out) to bring Croatia's total to 96-9 in their allotted overs.
Croatia replied with an effective opening bowling partnership from Vivek Sharma and all-rounder Craig Wear, the latter taking 3-16. However, the arrival of Israel's skipper Gutman to the crease eventually proved to be Croatia's breaking point as he went on to score 47* hitting eight 4's in the process thus sealing a comprehensive 6-wicket win and promotion to Division 2 in 2010 for his team.
Israel beat Croatia by 6 wickets.
Zagreb, 11 October.
Croatia 96-9 (36 overs, P Kastelan 33, S Shein 4-27)
