The inauguration of the first cricket ground in Tukums, Latvia was held on June 6th, 2009.

Residing over the inauguration precedings were the Mayor of Smarda Mr. Guntars Vaza, the Deputy British Ambassador in Latvia and the President of the Latvian Cricket Federation Sundar Vaideeswaran.

Following the speeches and well wishes from distinguished guests, the tape at the entry of the ground was cut by the Mayor and a lottery draw was conducted to decide the fixtures for the inaugural T20 cricket tournament between the home team and visiting Baltic neighbours Estonia, Lithuania and Ukraine.

The tournament started with the match between Estonia and Lithuania and was followed by a champagne lunch party, a fitting celebration for the birth of Latvian cricket.
