Guernsey's role in Europe has strengthened greatly and following the re-structuring of the European senior events programme, with the addition of T20 pathway tournaments, the structure of the European Cricket Committee does not now reflect this programme and it was therefore concluded that a restructuring of the committee in terms of the country categories represented was required, as follows:
HPP Countries Representative (Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands)
Division 1 Representative (WCL countries - Denmark, Italy, Jersey, Guernsey, Norway, Gibraltar, Germany, plus France, Israel, Croatia)
Division 2 & 3 Representative (Spain, IOM, Belgium, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Finland, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Slovenia, Sweden, Czech Rep, Bulgaria, Turkey, Estonia).
Following a nomination and voting process GCB Chairman Dave Piesing was elected as the Division 1 Representative to the European Cricket Committee.
ICC Regional Development Manager Richard Holdsworth commented: "The International Cricket Council continues to strive to improve the standard of its events, tournaments, player development and education of coaches and officials.
"Its European Cricket Committee is tasked with supporting ICC regional management in this process, and the inclusion on this committee of GCB Chairman David Piesing is a reflection of the contribution he and the GCB has made in recent years to European cricket. We look forward to David adding value to an already highly skilled and experienced group, chaired by myself."
Also in addtion Guernsey and, more specifically the ICG has beaten off competition from Lords to win the right to host the 2011 ICC Europe Coaches Conference.
The Conference will be held from 4th to 6th February 2011 and is titled ‘Coaching the Changing Game'. The GCB and ICG will welcome coaches and officials from across the ICC Europe region. The agenda for the 3 days includes a High Performance Conference as well as an Intro to Cricket Tutor Course.
Chris Porter the ICC Europe Development Officer said: " ICC Europe reviewed all possible locations for the ICC Europe Conference. Historically ICC Europe used Lord's Indoor School however for 2011 ICC Europe felt that it was a good idea to move the Conference to an ICC Member Country. Following positive conversations with the ICG and the GCB ICC Europe selected Guernsey to host the Conference.
In all we are expecting some 57 Coaches to attend the event together with: Gordon Lord (ECB Head of Elite Coach Development); Andy Tennant (Cricket Scotland); Mark Garaway (Cricket Ireland) and Keith Tomlins (ECB Senior Coach Development Manager).
In conclusion Mark Latter GCB Chief Executive Officer commented: "When Guernsey embarked on the process of becoming an Associate Member of ICC it did so with every intention of becoming an active and key member within both the ICC European Region but also throughout the world. The above appointments and events further cement that drive and, with our position as a Pepsi ICC WCL tournament host we are ensuring our name is on the map in all regions.
"The opportunities afforded us by membership of the ICC allow both the GCB to reach into the very heart of the Great Sport of cricket but also bring financial and collateral benefits to our Island home. My congratulations to all involved in the appointments and events above." Concluded Latter.
