Cyprus Cricket Introduction to Coaching Course

Cyprus Cricket in association with International Cricket Council (ICC) is conducting an Introductory Cricket Coaching Course through Pepsi ICC Development Program Europe on May 8 at The Heritage Private School in Limassol, Cyprus.

The course is specifically designed for physical education teachers and parents with little or no understanding of cricket. People with no cricketing background and players interested in cricket coaching can also benefit from the course.

The main aim of the course is to provide participants with the basic understanding of the game. Also, various aspects of the game like umpiring, scoring, and playing are covered through the course. The course will also allow the participants in acquiring knowledge on how to carry out a cricket session with children and make it an enjoyable experience in a safe environment.

Marios Lemonis, the Official Spokesperson of Cyprus Cricket Association shared Cyprus Cricketfs philosophy behind the event gCyprus Cricket believes that through such programs we are investing in professional development of teachers. This will allow us strengthen links between Cyprus Cricket Association and the schools and will also extend the opportunities for pupils beyond school.

We are thankful to Pepsi ICC Development Program for helping us promote and develop the game of cricket in Cyprus. We hope this activity will prove fruitful in our youth development efforts. We further hope the Cyprus youth will be able to learn a new sport in shape of Cricket ] a sport that is known as the gentleman's game and demands respect for your opponents, your own captain and team, the role of the umpires, and the gamefs traditional values.h

The course will be delivered by Cyprus Cricket National Head Coach Terry Holt and upon completion of course the participants will receive an ICC certificate for participation.

The course start time is 0900 hrs and is expected to last for 10 hours. Though, the course is free for all, however, registration is required.

The course will be carried out in English; however, material will be available in both English & Greek. At the end of the course, the physical education teachers representing their schools can fill out the application for Free Kwik Cricket equipment.

He concluded: "The Pepsi ICC Development Programme was launched in 1997 with the aim of developing cricket into a truly global sport by fostering the game in the ICC's existing Associate and Affiliate Member countries, and by attracting new Members. Due to the success of this Programme, the number of Members has more than doubled since its inception."
