Cyprus Cricket Association hosted its inaugural floodlit"six a side" tournament on August 21, 2010 at The Heritage Private School in Limassol, Cyprus.
The event was attended by 16 teams with representation from all 4 regions of Cyprus. It kicked off at 1800 hrs under clear blue skies with National Team Captain Mike Kyriacou doing the honors of bowling the first over of the evening.
The event lived up to the expectations and provided plenty of exciting moments to keep a noisy crowd of 250 persons entertained for the whole night. 15 matches were played over 12 hours of non-stop cricket with the quick-fire format rewarding big hitters and intelligent bowlers. National Team player Manjula Kandage stole the limelight with his fierce hitting prowess and ended up as the batsman of the tournament.
However, his team's over-reliance on him costed them the title as they finished runners up to Limassol Lions in a one-sided final that saw Lions winning by 32 runs after posting a competitive total of 52 runs in allotted overs.
Lions captain Idunil Prera accepted the trophy much to the joy of their boisterous support group that kept backing them up even when Lions found the going tough.
Philip Bell – CCA League Secretary commented"I think it was a glorious evening for Cyprus Cricket, with cricket being played for the first time under flood lights. We witnessed some awesome performances during the night and the star man been Manju with his all round performance - hitting the ball far and long and bowling
with express pace in his spells.
"However many of the more unknown players did their bit for their sides with some big hitting and fast bowling and some brilliant catches taken in the deep. A fantastic night with all persons enjoying the cricket and night out and a must do again."
