Cricketers from Austria, Belgium and Serbia will soon descend on Budapest to take part in the II Anita-Hungaria Women's Cricket Festival over the three days of 27th to 29th August. This is the follow-up to 2009's festival, to which a team from France came.
Friday will be mainly filled with coaching sessions and practice matches at a pitch near Budapest, as the girls and women get acclimatised to the conditions. Shopping and sightseeing time will be built in too.
Saturday will see the teams travel to Szolnok to play with girls from a local primary school as well as players from Bekescsaba in the far east of Hungary. Cricket has been played in both towns for over two years, but this is the first chance for them to experience some international competition.
The main tournament action will take place on Sunday near Budapest, with a round-robin tournament of 10-over matches. Prizes will be given every day to the players performing the best and a cup awarded to the winning country, courtesy of sponsors Anita-Hungaria (distributors of sports, pregnancy and care lingerie and swimwear).
Fun, friendship and further collaboration are the main aims of the weekend, as well as an improvement in every player's skills and matchplay. It promises to be an exciting, all-action weekend of cricket
