The Dutch women's league teams' inaugural Twenty20 competition is now underway in Netherlands.
The summer long competition began on July 24, with 10 sides split into three regional sections. From these groups will come four qualifiers for Finals Day that will be held at Quick 1888's ground in Nijmegen on September 4.
Still Going Strong Cricket Club will be sponsoring all prizes for the inaugural tournament and has for long supported women's cricket in Netherlands; the veterans' team is no doubt delighted to be associated with the tournament.
However, due to the scheduling of this year's event a large number of the Netherland's women's squad will be unable to play due to commitments in the ECB LV=County Championship Division 4 and the ICC European Championship WCQ in Scotland from August 9-13.
This is a fantastic step forward for women's cricket in Netherlands to raise the profile of the sport and encourage participation at all levels of the game. Next year, it is hoped that the event will be scheduled around the Women's team calendar to allow more of the leading players to participate and also to bring a major sponsor on-board.
