On this week's ICC Cricket World audio show ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat explains the importance of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 4 which will be staged in Italy from 14-21 August.
"I think the Pepsi ICC WCL Div.4 will be an exciting tournament for Italy, a country which normally follows soccer," he says, adding: "All the competing nations know this tournament provides a clear pathway for all the teams to compete in it and qualify for ICC's flagship event – the ICC Cricket World Cup."
Teams from Nepal, USA, Italy, Cayman Islands, Argentina and Tanzania will converge on Bologna to compete in the fourth step of the World Cricket League as they push ultimately towards inclusion in the next ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ) which is scheduled for 2013.
The top four finishers of the ICC CWCQ 2013 win themselves a place at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 to be staged in Australia and New Zealand.
The top two sides at WCL Div. 4 will win promotion to the WCL Div. 3 to be staged in Hong Kong in January 2011.
"The Pepsi ICC World Cricket League has a good structure, quality regional development programmes and passionate coaches who have helped us to take the game to countries that even I thought would only have been a distant possibility," he says.
Also on this week's show, the Cayman Islands' coach Theo Cuffy talks about his side's preparation for the ICC WCL Div.4 while the show includes a special feature on Rudi Koertzen who retired from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires last week.
