The Trevor Henry memorial fund has been set up to raise money for the education and further development of umpires in Europe.
Henry was a very successful umpire, who through training and experience had risen through the Irish ranks onto the international stage, he was recommended for ICC European tournaments where he excelled and was then later recommended for the inaugural ICC Associate and Affiliate Panel.
The fund is used to award scholarships to umpire associations in Europe, money is raised at the ICC European President?s Day raffle, where ICC Europe Partners and Suppliers, generously donate items to be used for the raffle. One of those who are currently making use of the scholarship is Heath Kearns. Kearns from Jersey was a new addition to this year?s ICC Europe Umpire Panel.
Umpiring in a Guernsey Premier League match earlier this month, between Cenkos Centurions and Wave Telecom Warriors, Kearns was delighted with his opportunity. ?I had a fantastic day umpiring the first of the Guernsey Premier League T20 matches, it was a sunny and clear day, but we had to deal with blustery conditions.
?It was a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience; the Trevor Henry Memorial Fund gives such great opportunities to up and coming umpires across Europe,? concluded Kearns.
