Venue change at ICC European Division 1 Championship

Fri, Jul 22, 2011 5:29 AM

The Event Technical Committee (ETC) met this afternoon to discuss the venue for the semi-final (to be played on Saturday 23rd July), and 3rd/4th play-off and final match of the ICC European Division 1 Championship both to be played on Sunday 24th July in Jersey.

The three matches had been scheduled to be played at Grainville, however it was brought to the attention of the ETC that following today’s two matches at the ground, the pitch was not of the standard expected for an international semi-final or final which has global qualification at stake.

The ETC heard evidence regarding the state of today’s pitch from the Tournament Director, Tournament Referee and a report from the umpires. The ETC understands the great difficulty the groundsman has had in recent days preparing pitches for the seven matches scheduled to be played at Grainville, with adverse weather conditions. There is no doubt that the weather has affected this preparation and affected the state of the pitch.

The ETC therefore considered other venues for the semi-final, 3rd/4th play-off and final, which were based on cricketing reasons as well as logistical, spectator and safety factors. The ETC deemed that FB Fields is the best facility to move these games to.
