Guernsey announce squad for ICC WCL Div. 6

The Guernsey Cricket Board announced the players selected for the Senior Island Squad for the forthcoming Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 being held in Malaysia from 17 to 24 September 2011.
The Guernsey Squad are sponsored and supported by Cenkos. This is now the second year of the partnership with Cenkos and their magnificent support will continue to enable the Senior Squad to not only be prepared but also look like a team ready to compete in ICC cricket globally.
Commenting on the side?s trip to Malaysia Cenkos Business Development Manager, Paul Matthews said ?Cenkos Channel Islands is proud to sponsor the Guernsey Cricket Squad and wishes all the members of the team the best of luck in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League. It is a great achievement for a team representing Guernsey to be playing at such a high level and promoting the Island on the global stage.
Guernsey will be in a six team league alongside Jersey and Fiji who came down from ICC WCL5, Kuwait and Nigeria who came up from ICC WCL7 and the hosts Malaysia who Guernsey beat in the ICC WCL6 3rd/4th Playoff in Singapore in 2009. The top two sides will qualify for ICC WCL Div. 5 to be held in Singapore in February 2012.
Matches will be played at the Kinrara Oval, Bayuemas Oval and Selangor Turf Club all in Kuala Lumpur.
On the selection of the Squad the National Coach Andy Cornford said, "Ever since we returned from the ICC World Cricket League Division 6 in Singapore in 2009, everyone involved with Guernsey cricket had been relishing the challenge of a return to cricket in Asia. This tournament will be tough, not only due to the strength of our opposition but because of the harsh heat and humidity playing in that part of the world. Having said that we are better prepared and know to some extent what to expect.
"The players have been working hard at their 50 over skills and the challenge for us is to start this tournament as we ended in Singapore. We have a strong squad and it's exciting to see some younger players making the 50 over squad for the first time. I'm confident they'll go well," said Cornford.
Commenting on the upcoming tournament National Manager Pete Vidamour said, "ICC World Cricket League Division 6 in Malaysia will be the culmination of months of hard work and commitment from the Guernsey squad and everyone involved is looking forward to the tournament. The standard of competition will be very high and we are expecting some hard games but we are confident that we have a strong squad who can rise to the challenge."
