First ever Junior tournament played in Barcelona, Spain

The first ever junior tournament in Barcelona was played at the weekend, as Catalonia gets behind the development of cricket in Spain.
Catalunya Cricket Club along with the Unio Esportiva Catalana de Clubs de Cricket organised the tournament with help of the Ayuntamiento of Barcelona, and supported by the Secretaria General de Esports Generalitat de Catalunya (the Government of Catalunya) and Casa Asia.
The junior tournament started on 22nd September, in which junior teams Catalunya CC, Girona CC, Santa Coloma CC, Cornella CC and Ali Youngsters took part. All the teams played well, with young, enthusiastic talent on show to see in this region. Many of the youngsters played very good cricket and made an impression, but the three award winners were Vinod who was awarded best batsman, Jassi best bowler of the tournament and Kuldeep Lal as man of series for his excellent performance.
After playing the league matches Catalunya Cricket Club and Girona Cricket Club played the final match on 25th September. Girona CC won the toss and elected to bat, but the loss of important wickets meant Girona CC could not make a good partnership and were restricted to 84 runs in a 16 over match.
In response Catalunya CC started well and chased down the score within the 14th over of the match, there were a couple of early breakthroughs for Girona CC, but soon after the Catalunya team controlled the match in their favour as Gurmeet stepped in and played some excellent shots. Kuldeep Lal supported him until the winning shot of the match; Gurmeet was awarded as the Man of the Match of the final match.
The senior teams also took part in this tournament as Woodcutters a Scottish club played two matches against Catalunya Cricket club and Cornella Cricket club, both Catalan clubs were too strong for the Woodcutters by a significant margin.
In the presentation ceremony, Mr. Robert Masih Nahar the director of Catalunya cricket appreciated all the clubs and youngsters who took, part in the tournament, he also thanked to the staff and specially Mr. Armghan Khan, Mr. Afzal Mohammad and Mr. Adnan Malik for their efforts to make this tournament a very successful tournament.
Later Masih Nahar added that, “This is the beginning of junior cricket in Catalunya, we will try our best to take the junior and senior cricket to a very good level, we are very proud of our boys and if they continue to work hard, it can only be a success.”
