The annual Sky Sports Coach Awards were held this weekend at Lord's Cricket Ground where ECB announced Europe was recognised with a winner, Ireland's Andy McCrea.
The awards are designed to recognise those who have made a significant contribution to the support and development of coaches and coaching in cricket.
Andy McCrea of Templepartick CC was awarded with the very prestigious award of Outstanding Coaching Achievement, after helping achieve significant participation growth at his club and making a major contribution to talent development in the local area. McCrea is the first European coach to win this award.
The Schoolteacher from County Antrim was thrilled with the recognition; "I am absolutely delighted with my recent ECB Sky Sports Coaching Award. To be recognised by the ECB as the Outstanding Coaching Achievement winner is a massive honour. It was a night to remember in more ways than one as the venue was the Long Room at the home of cricket at Lord's Cricket Ground, making it a great night for not only myself but also my club, Templepatrick Cricket Club and Cricket Ireland.
"This follows on from my award as an ICC European winner earlier this year and I am very grateful to Cricket Ireland for nominating me and ICC Europe and the ECB for selecting me. I am also very grateful to all the people from Cricket Ireland, ICC Europe and the ECB Coach Education team who have helped shape and progress my coaching pathway over the years," says McCrea.
A mention must also go to Mike Kinder who was nominated in the Outstanding Contribution and Services to Cricket Coaching Award for his dedication to development of cricket. The Guernsey man has been involved in many schemes but not limited to, the Sheffield Boys Cricket Scheme and the responsibility of organising the Guernsey Cricket Coaching Scheme which he ran for over 20 years. He narrowly missed out to Les Bishop a founder member and former president of the Worcestershire Coaches Association.
