The Guernsey Cricket Board has announces the squad selected for the Senior Island Squad for the forthcoming Pepsi ICC World Cricket League 5 being held in Singapore from 18 to 25 February 2012.
The Guernsey Squad are sponsored and supported by Cenkos Channel Islands. This is now the third year of the partnership with Cenkos and their magnificent support will continue to enable the Senior Squad to not only be prepared but also look like a team ready to compete in ICC cricket globally.
Commenting on the sides trip to Singapore Jon Ravenscroft of Cenkos said, "We wish the team the best of luck in the tournament. Fingers crossed they perform to the best of their abilities and if so World Division Four beckons!"
Guernsey will be in a 6 team league alongside Argentina and Cayman Islands who dropped down from Pepsi ICC WCL4, Malaysia who were promoted with Guernsey from the recent Pepsi ICC WCL6 and, Bahrain and the hosts Singapore whom Guernsey met in Pepsi ICC WCL6 in 2009. The top two sides will qualify for ICC WCL4 to be held in Florida in May 2012.
On the selection of the Squad the National Coach Andy Cornford said, "We're very happy with the quality of the squad we've selected for Singapore. There are 3 new faces coming into the Guernsey squad, which is always healthy for any team. The 3 are all-rounders who bowl seam, which is an area we wanted to bolster. We're all excited about World Cricket League 5 and returning to Singapore and whilst recognising the challenges ahead, we're confident that we can build on our performances from Malaysia.
"One notable name missing is that of Lee Savident. Lee has been playing for sometime with ongoing injuries but now requires a back operation. Lee is desperately disappointed to be missing the tournament and given his contributions to the team he will obviously be missed, but we look forward to having him back injury free in the future. This does of course present opportunity for other players and I expect the fight for places in the final eleven to be a tough but exciting one," concluded Cornford.
The Squad is; Stuart Le Prevost (Captain); Stuart Bisson; Ben Ferbrache; Jeremy Frith; David Hooper; Tom Kimber; Ross Kneller; William Peatfield; Jamie Nussbaumer; Tim Ravenscroft; Gary Rich; Tim Duke; GH Smit; Matthew Renouf
