George Dockrell's brilliant spell of 3-15 helped Ireland beat host Kenya by six wickets in the first Twenty20 International at the Mombasa Sports Club on Wednesday.
Asked to bat first, Kenya was bowled out for 107 in its 20 overs. Only Tanmay Mishra (34) and Ragheb Aga (25) made significant contributions. The duo added 48 runs for the fifth wicket. But thereafter the batting collapsed.
For Ireland, apart from Dockrell, Alex Cusack (2-11) and Max Sorensen (2-17) picked up crucial wickets.
In its reply, Ireland lost early wickets. But a fourth wicket stand of 47 between Kevin O'Brien (30 not out) and Ed Joyce (24) helped Ireland win with ease.
Ireland reached the target in 15.3 overs.
The second Twenty20 International is to be played on Thursday.
