Ireland captain Isobel Joyce paid tribute to her team mates after the Ireland Women's squad completed a magnificent season by capturing promotion to the second division of the ECB County Championships after defeating The Netherlands by 133 runs in the play-off decider at East Grinstead.
Clare Shillington's hundred set up the victory as the Irish posted 215, and then routed the Dutch for just 82, with teenagers Louise McCarthy, Kim Garth and Elena Tice sharing the wickets.
A clearly delighted Joyce said: “The team are obviously very happy to finish with such a huge win. It's a superb achievement to go through the season undefeated in the County Championships, and I think we've impressed everyone with our positive brand of cricket."
"What's extremely pleasing is that our three wicket takers today are all under 19 which I think illustrates how bright the future of women’s cricket in Ireland is. That's one of the core strengths of the side - that fantastic blend of youth and experience, and we feed off one another. The younger players will benefit from playing alongside a quality player like Shillers, and hopefully will emulate her in the years ahead.
“We have learned a huge amount from the cricket we have played in the past three months and we look forward to working hard in the winter months to make sure that we keep improving and will certainly be striving to win Division Two next season.”
Promotion caps a quite superb season for Ireland Women in which they not only clinched the Division Three Championship and promotion, but also secured the Division 3 Twenty20 Cup, and also the ICC Europe Women's Twenty20 European Championshoip, gaining qualification for next year's ICC Global Women's Twenty20 Qualifier.
