This month ICC Performance Officer, Philip Hudson attended the Italian Coaches Conference organised by the Federazione and the Italian Coaches Association headed up Patrick Leach and Valerio Zuppiroli.
There were approximately 32-36 coaches ranging from L1 to L3 qualified who attended the conference
The first afternoon involved the coaches attending workshops on Leadership and Captaincy led by Richard O’Sullivan, Coaching in Schools was led by Kelum Perera, Coaching Women by Philip Hudson and Playing Spin by Joe Scuderi. Cricket Italia also held their AGM on the afternoon of the Saturday.
Day two was taken up by Scuderi running a Playing Spin practical session which introduced the coaches to Playing Spin drills and developed their understanding of how to coach batters to play spin better. Hudson then took the five L2 and one L3 coaches through two hours of batting drills included playing off the back foot and developing the sweep shot.
Scuderi and O’Sullivan looked after the rest of the group as one of the key aims of the conference was to find out which coaches had the quality to be involved in a L2 course occurring in 2013. All coaches were assessed in carrying out a 15-20 min coaching session on a specific skill.
There have been great discussions around the national team coaching programme and women’s programme which Cricket Italia look to push on with in 2013.
