Rick Hastie undertakes studies in Sport Management with support from ICC
Four candidates from across the cricketing world have successfully completed their first workshop of the World Academy of Sport Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) in Sport Management (Cricket), an industry-recognised higher qualification accredited through Royal Holloway, University of London, that develops critical skills for the effective administration and governance of sport. The PGC is supported by the ICC through a reduced rate for all ICC Members as well as a Scholarship programme for high performing and key staff from Associate and Affiliate Members.

The PGC has been developed in partnership with the World Academy of Sport (WAoS) and covers topics critical to the administration and management of sport at the national and international level. The PGC attracts a diverse range of participants from across the world and with diverse sport backgrounds, such as cricket, basketball, rugby, Paralympic sports and local authorities. The programme also complements the introductory resources already available through the ICC Cricket Administrators’ Programme (CAP), and the ‘cricket’ specialisation of the PGC enables participants to apply this knowledge to projects related to the Great Sport.

“In-line with our strategic focus of improving governance and administration standards within the global cricket community, the ICC is pleased to be supporting the Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) in Sport Management (Cricket),” said ICC Global Development Manager Tim Anderson.

“To have four cricket representatives from around the world participating in the current intake is a great opportunity for the individuals involved and I wish them all the best for their studies. We look forward to their new skills being used to further develop our great sport in their respective countries.”

The four cricketing candidates in this intake represent Associate Member Bermuda (Fiona Holmes), Affiliate Member Brazil (Matt Featherstone), as well as ICC Europe (Rick Hastie) and Full Member South Africa (Corrie Van Zyl).

After completing the first workshop, Fiona Holmes, who is Fund Development and Marketing Manager in Bermuda, said: “The World Academy of Sport has really opened my eyes to the front line global issues affecting sports organisations today. The Postgraduate Certificate in Sport Management offers the perfect mix of academic and practical learning experiences with the added benefit of working alongside colleagues from various sports backgrounds, thus enhancing the overall learning experience.”

Matt Featherstone, National Development Officer in Brazil, agreed: “The first module was fantastic. The World Academy of Sport has provided a detailed background on marketing and finance that I look forward to using in my association.”

The 2013 intake of the Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) in Sport Management (Cricket) begins in November 2013, with applications opening in January 2013.
