Gary De'ath of Gibraltar passes away

Tue, Dec 11, 2012 2:18 PM

It is with great sadness that Gibraltar Cricket communicates that in the early hours of 11th December 2012 Gary De'ath passed away.

Gary was a great servant and stalwart of Gibraltar cricket for well over 30 years, representing Gibraltar at numerous ICC Trophies and European championships. Gary was a classy top order batsman in his younger days and whilst his batting abilities faded with age, his wily and canny slow right arm over continued to bemuse many batsmen. Rumour has it that not even he knew when and in what direction he would turn the ball (if at all!). Gary was an uncompromising competitor on the field of play yet always played the game in the spirit that the game should be played. Those of us who have had the pleasure of knowing Gary and the privilege of spending time with him on and off the cricket field will have fond and everlasting memories of his caustic and dry sense of humour. His stories will be told for many years to come amongst the cricketing fraternity. He will be sorely missed by us all.

Our condolences to his wife and children on such a tragic loss. Rest in peace old friend.
