The Jersey Cricket Board recently held a two day training camp for its senior squad at Langford. Both days started at 6.30am with two hours of fitness testing and gym work. Sessions were led by Craig Hogan, National Coach, who was assisted by Jason Carpenter and Nick Dingle.
Following the fitness sessions, individual player interviews were conducted focusing on personal preparation and plans for the future. The evening sessions comprised of more cricket-specific activities involving fielding, batting and bowling skills.
Chris Minty, Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are working hard to be as professional as we can, both on and off the field, and setting this exercise up is part of that plan. Initial reports suggest that the whole exercise was very worthwhile.”
Unfortunately, during one of the fitness sessions, Dan Garton was involved in a freak accident whilst running, resulting in a double fracture to his arm. The JCB is confident that Dan will make a full recovery in time for the cricket season.
This year promises to be a very busy year with World Cricket League Division 6 being held in Jersey from 21-28 July with teams from Argentina, Kuwait and Bahrain plus the top two from Division 7 (Fiji, Nigeria, Ghana, Vanuatu, Germany and Botswana) who play in April. Prior to this world tournament, Jersey will be at the European Division 1 T20 tournament from July 8-14 in Sussex.
