Umpire panels announced for 2013
Following the European Officials Selection Committee (EOSC) meeting ICC Europe are pleased to announce the Umpire Panels for the 2013 season.
The EOSC decided to reduce the Panel to 34 umpires whilst introducing a Challenge Series Panel which would cater for the increasing number of Challenge Series matches that will take place during the next few years.
The EOSC also took the opportunity to promote 5 umpires onto their Elite Panel and we congratulate those who have made this big step, and wish them every success in their new roles. The EOSC also promoted five of the 2012 Probationary Umpire Panel onto the main Panel and selected eight umpires to join the 2013 Probationary Panel.
Umpire education and development remains at the heart of cricket in Europe, and alongside our 31 European members, ICC Europe remains committed to supporting umpiring regionally and in-country. ICC Europe have recently written out to all members to continue to support this development in the short, medium and long term, as we recognise how important umpiring, and scoring, is to the continued development of the game.
Graham Cooper , ICC Europe Umpire Consultant is very happy with the panel for this year: 'We had to take some hard decisions with regard to the panels for this year and the high standard of playing competition within Europe means that the entry point for the panel is much higher than ever before. We can no longer give our umpires a few years to settle in to the role - they need to be ready for the level of cricket right from the first event. We were extremely pleased to be able to promote five umpires onto the Elite List and this is a result of their hard work both on and off the field during the past few years - we wish them well,' concluded Cooper.
