Cricket Scotland launches 'Cricket-a-thon' for the STV Appeal 2014
Cricket Scotland is today launching a Scotland-wide 'cricket-a-thon' in aid of the STV Appeal 2014.

The weekend event will take place on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August, with Cricket Scotland encouraging as many people as possible - young and old - to bat and bowl to raise funds for this worthy cause. The STV Appeal raises money for children in Scotland affected by poverty.

STV Sports presenter and cricket fan, Raman Bhardwaj, helped Cricket Scotland launch the weekend cricket-a-thon with school children from Cross Arthurlie Primary School in Barrhead.

It is anticipated that professional and non-professional players, established club members, their families and school children from across the country, will all take part in this exciting weekend. There are over 200 cricket clubs in Scotland, many of which will participate in the fundraising. In addition, events will be held in various places across the country, details of which will be confirmed shortly.

It doesn't matter where people play - it can be at a club, in the back garden or with friends in the park - as long as they donate to the STV Appeal they?ll be part of the nationwide weekend cricket-a-thon.

Raman Bhardwaj, STV Sports presenter, said: "On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August, club members and professional players will all be playing cricket but on this weekend, many of them will pledge a few quid to the STV Appeal, which is just fantastic. But it doesn't matter where you are, whether you?ve played cricket before or how old you are - we'd encourage people across Scotland to pick up a bat and a ball, yell howzat, have some fun and raise some cash for charity."

Roddy Smith, Chief Executive of Cricket Scotland, said: "We're delighted to be supporting the STV Appeal this year and hope to raise a huge amount of money for this truly worthwhile charity by encouraging as many people as possible to play cricket on 23 and 24 August. People can play anywhere - at a club, in the garden or in the middle of a field - as long as you donate to the STV Appeal you'll be taking part in this Scotland-wide cricket-a-thon. We'd also welcome people to come along to special events to try their hand at cricket and join in the fun."
