The Isle of Man Cricket Association is pleased to announce that Greig Wright has been appointed Cricket Development Officer with effect from 1st September 2014.
He will replace Gareth Dawson, who left in March of this year to take up a new role coaching the National Representative Team in Gibraltar. We are grateful to Phil Unsworth, who acted as interim Coach while Gareth’s replacement was being recruited, for the work he has put in during the season. He will step down in August.
Greig moves to the Isle of Man from Derbyshire Cricket Board (DCB), where he has held the role of Performance Officer working in their elite environment. This has included developing areas such as the Emerging Players Programme, the Academy, working as head coach for Derbyshire Women and all Junior County Age Group Squads both boys and girls.
Having started working for DCB as community coach in 2006 he progressed to Community Development Officer responsible for co-ordinating all club/school activity in the County before being promoted to the role of Performance Officer.
During his time at Derbyshire, Greig has written the DCB Fundamentals programme as one of the three pilot counties chosen by the ECB to initiate the long term athlete development programme vision in England.
Greig is a lead tutor and organiser for the Coach Education Programme for DCB which in 2014 has seen him run 16 certificated courses (ECB and 1st4Sport) and 20 activators courses. Within coach education he is also the lead Field Based Trainer, qualified assessor and internal verifier.
He has had further opportunities delivering coach education for the International Cricket Council in Holland, Malta, Finland and Austria, along with specialist delivery at the European conference and writing articles for ICC coaches on specialist subjects.
Coaching in this elite performance environment has given Greig the opportunity to pursue his professional development on the ECB Level 4 programme which he has almost completed.
