Cricket Scotland today confirms that Paul Collingwood is set to re-join the Scotland coaching staff for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 (CWC).
Collingwood was handed the joint interim Head Coach role, and together with Craig Wright, guided Scotland to victory in the 2014 ICC CWC Global Qualifying event back in January and February.
Since then he has had a spell with England’s coaching team at the T20 World Cup, and was a key member of Durham’s squad, along with Scotland batsman Calum MacLeod, as they clinched the Royal London One Day Cup in 2014.
Collingwood – England’s most capped ODI player – was also part of the Scotland coaching staff during the 2014 World Twenty20 Qualifier in United Arab Emirates in November 2013.
The Cricket World Cup starts on 14 February 2015, with Scotland’s six group matches being played in New Zealand and Tasmania. Scotland’s first match will take place on 17 February against New Zealand in Dunedin, which is already sold out. There then follows a ‘mouth-watering’ clash against England in Christchurch on 23 February.
The tournament is one of the world's most viewed sporting events. The Scots preparations are now well underway, with a recently completed acclimatisation tour of Australia and New Zealand under their belts.
Members of the squad will also head out to a nine day intensive batting camp in Dubai, starting on 9 November.
Grant Bradburn said: “We are fortunate to once again have the valuable services of Paul Collingwood on board with us for the World Cup. Paul will bring a calmness and confidence to our environment and is very familiar with all of our players having been a support coach with Scotland during the World Cup qualifiers in February. The World Cup will be a massive stage for our players to step out onto and release their vast natural skills. Having the experience of Paul in our corner will be a huge asset for all of us during this event.”
Paul Collingwood said: “It’s a great pleasure for me to be back on the coaching team with the Scotland squad for the 2015 World Cup. I’m very much looking forward to working with them to help get the team fully prepared for these incredibly important matches.”
Keith Oliver, Chairman of Cricket Scotland: “Paul brings with him a vast amount of experience and we’re thrilled to have secured him as part of our coaching team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. There is no doubt that the Scotland team will benefit immensely from his expertise and positive attitude in this all-important global competition.”
