Ireland top table after opening day victory against Jersey at Pepsi ICC Europe U19 Division 1

The first day of Pepsi ICC Europe U19 Division 1 has seen Ireland secure a six-wicket victory over hosts Jersey, and Scotland record a convincing 99-run victory over Netherlands.
At Grainville, Ireland restricted Jersey to 170 for nine and scored the winning runs in 30.5 overs and Scotland posted 249 for eight, before restricting Netherlands for 150 for nine in 50 overs at FB Fields.
Ireland restricted Jersey to a modest 170 for nine after 50 overs as the hosts failed to capitalise on starts in the batting order. Benjamin Ward (33, four fours, one six) and Solomon Warner (23, four fours) kept the scoreboard ticking over before Ben White took middle-order wickets with figures of 3 wickets for 33 runs. Robert Duckett with 45 not out including six fours led Jersey to 170 for nine after 50 overs.
Ireland put on an impressive batting display as William McClintock (50, six fours, one six) and Sonny Cott (six fours) put on an opening partnership of 81with both reaching half centuries in the innings. Captain Jack Tector added a quickfire13 runs and Gary McClintock scored 12 runs off 11 balls, before Adam Dennison (23 not out, two fours) and Lorcan Tucker (6) chased down the final runs. Ireland secured a six-wicket victory in 30.5 overs.
Scotland got off to a flying start in the tournament as early cloud cover made way for sun at FB Fields with Syed Shah (50) and Finlay McCreath (58) both scoring half centuries. Shah’s innings included five fours, before he was run out by captain Saqib Zulfiqar, Netherlands’ may rue missed chances with Shah and McCreath both dropped. Scotland captain Neil Flack contributed with 40 runs from 56 balls included three fours and Finlay McCreath scored an impressive 58 (three fours, one six) which took the Scots to 217-5 after 47.1 overs.
Scott Cameron scored a quickfire 26 runs from 21 balls, as Scotland finished on 249 for eight after 50 overs. The pick of the Dutch bowlers was Asief Hoseinbaks who took four wickets for 36 runs in seven overs.
The Dutch reply stuttered with two of the triplets in the Netherlands team Sikander Zulfiqar (38, four fours) and Asad Zulfiqar (35 not out) the only main contributors to the chase. Opener Nick Bett (16) and Hamdan Khan (14) got the chase of to a solid start, but the day belonged to the Scottish bowlers and Haris Aslam who took three wickets for 23 runs in his 10 overs, leading the Scottish to a 99 run victory.
