Ireland is facing the probability of being without pace man Boyd Rankin, suffering from a groin strain, for next Thursday's one-day international against England at Stormont.
The injury might rule him out for two weeks which will be a devastating blow for Ireland, as its strike bowler is in good form. The 24-year-old was expected to join the team for the ODIs against Scotland in Aberdeen but now faces the possibility of not being in the ODI squad in Belfast.
Ireland will now depend on its extra bowler, Andre Botha, who has successfully returned from an ankle operation finishing with figures of 2-16 in six overs in the ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Scotland.
Ireland's Trent Johnston will also be looking forward to Sunday's ODI against Scotland to celebrate his 100th international appearance for Ireland, the ninth player to reach that landmark.
