It was a low scoring affair on the reserve day at ICC Under-19 World Cup Qualifier Europe Division Two. Due to the washout on Wednesday, Italy U19 faced Guernsey U19 at Excelsior and Netherlands U19 played Denmark U19 at VRA.
Italy U19 won the toss and chose to bat, wickets fell thick and fast, Ankush Kumar was top scorer for the Italians with 20 runs from 51 balls including two fours. Riccardo Meade was the only other batsman who got into double figures with 13 runs from 42 balls. Jack Birch was the pick of the Guernsey U19 bowlers taking three wickets for six runs in 3.1 overs. Italy U19 finished on 93 all out in 36.1 overs.
Guernsey U19 reply clearly wanted to get the runs as quickly as possible, as its openers Lewis Drummy 23 runs from 17 balls including three fours and one six and Anthony Stokes 10 runs from 12 balls took the run-rate up. A few wickets fell in the middle order, but Declan Martle ensured victory with 25 runs from 23 balls, with Louis Falla chipping in with 13 runs from 20 balls. Guernsey U19 won by 4 wickets.
In the day’s other match it was a similar story as Netherlands U19 were bowled out cheaply in 31.3 overs. Sebastiaan van Lent top scored with 32 from 42 balls and was assisted by Bas de Leede (11) to post the best possible score. Jonas Henriksen was the star of the Danish bowlers with five wickets for 16 runs in eight overs.
Netherlands U19 finished on 84 all out.
The Danish reply centred on Shangeev Thanikaithasan scoring 33 runs from 40 balls including four fours, with contributions from Altamish Durrani (17) and Jonas Henriksen (11), scoring the 85 runs needed in 20.3 overs losing only three wickets.
